The Archaeological Museum of Alicante is housed in the city's former Hospital de San Juan de Dios and is home to an array of local artefacts. Alicante's impressive Museum of Fine Arts offers an extensive collection of paintings, sculptures, textiles, furniture and antiques. Featuring works by a number of notable artists, exhibits at the museum date from the Middle Ages onwards. Founded at the end of 2001, more than 500 paintings are on display at the museum at any one time.
